Independent Inventor
The Innovation Law is a milestone for encouraging innovation in Brazil. It provides incentives for innovation and scientific and technological research in the productive environment, and guarantees support for independent inventors, that is, anyone who does not hold a permanent, military or public office and who is the inventor or author of any work. Therefore, anyone can be an independent inventor, as long as the invention meets the patentability criteria: novelty, inventive step and industrial application.
By approaching NIT Rio, independent inventors make their invention available, in accordance with Chapter V of the Innovation Law:
“Independent inventors who prove they have filed a patent application may request the adoption of their creation by a public ICT, which will decide on the merit and timeliness of the request and on drawing up a project to evaluate the creation for future development, incubation, use, industrialization and market entry.”
NIT Rio is therefore available to assist anyone who fits this profile, providing the guidance needed to follow up on the patent application.
