Innovate with NIT Rio
- Step 1
Research and discovery
The scientific and technological research carried out at the Research Units (UPs) linked to MCTI generates cutting-edge scientific knowledge that drives technological progress and the well-being of society. From this knowledge, new technologies can be conceived or existing ones improved, driving innovation in industry and improving the competitiveness of companies’ products and services.
- Step 2
Notify NIT Rio of your creation
If your idea may result in a practical invention, contact NIT Rio before disclosing it as a paper, poster, thesis or oral presentation, to check the Intellectual Property issues and the possibility of filing/registering it with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).
Why notify NIT Rio? It is important for NIT Rio to know your technology, because its organizational structure makes it possible to:
- Identify the inventor(s) and owner(s) and set the share of ownership;
- Identify the technology’s stage of development;
- Analyze and advise on the merit of protecting the creations developed, as well as on disclosing creations eligible for intellectual protection, as provided for in the Innovation Law;
- Advise the institution and the researcher on the economic feasibility and market potential for R&D&I.
- Step 3
Intellectual property registration
If the Research Unit decides to protect the creation presented by the researcher, NIT Rio will help prepare the technical documentation to file the application with the INPI.
After filing/registration, NIT Rio will maintain the intellectual property titles, handling all the administrative and legal requirements until they are granted.
- Step 4
Technology mapping and dissemination
Once the asset is protected, NIT Rio will carry out competitive intelligence studies in the field of intellectual property to guide innovation actions, analyzing the commercial strategies best suited to your invention. NIT Rio uses specialized channels to promote the research or technology and seek partnerships for R&D&I or technology transfer.
To do so, we recommend filling in the forms in the Intellectual Property section. In this document the researcher notifies NIT Rio of the creation and provides essential information so our team can design the best protection strategy for the assets developed in the research.
