Sustainability and AgTech (AGRO)

Technologies for responsible use or aimed at agribusiness
Sustainable technologies aim to minimize environmental impact and promote the conservation of natural resources. In agribusiness, these technologies are increasingly important to ensure the sector’s productivity and profitability without harming the environment. The Research Units that make up the NIT Rio arrangement research and develop innovative technologies in Food Science, Environmental Chemistry, Agrominerals and Bioeconomy, such as applying phosphate rocks in agriculture as a way to replace fertilizers that are aggressive to soil and crops. Another technology is devices for assessing the physical-hydric properties of soil, allowing greater speed and precision regarding the nutritional needs of crops. This way, farmers can rationalize the use of fertilizers and save on them, which represent up to 30% of agricultural costs. These technologies help reduce the use of pesticides, save water and preserve the soil, contributing to the environment and to sustainable agribusiness.
